PEARL CARE

El’eeté pearls are of the highest quality and have a natural magical shimmer. To ensure that your pearls retain their unique beauty and noble lustre over generations, they require loving care. Only a few rules need to be observed.

STORING PEARLS

Store your pearls in a soft case or in a cloth and separate from other jewellery. Silk is best, as cotton draws moisture from the pearls. This way you can protect your pearl jewellery from scratches on the surface.

CLEANING PEARLS

After wearing your pearls, you should carefully wipe them with a soft cloth without water. This is the easiest way to remove residues of cosmetics, dust or sweat. Pearl necklaces and bracelets in particular should be cleaned regularly, as they come into direct contact with the skin.

PROTECTION FROM COSMETICS

Be careful with cosmetic products: Creams, hairspray, deodorant, perfume or soap can strongly attack the fine calcium structure of the pearl and thus damage the luster. It is therefore particularly advisable to be careful with creams on the décolleté and hands. Only when the hairstyle is in place, the perfume has dried and the make-up is ready should you put on your pearls.

PROTECTION FROM HEAT

Pearls do not like to be left in the blazing sun or near a heater for long periods of time. Heat and sunlight dry out the outer layers of mother-of-pearl, making them dull and porous in the long run, and discolouration of the pearl can occur. Pearls also do not like sweat. Therefore, pearl jewellery should always be taken off when sunbathing or doing sports.

CARE OF PEARL JEWELLERY

To enjoy your pearl necklace for a long time, you should routinely have it reknotted once a year. The small knots between the individual pearls prevent them from rubbing against each other and causing damage. To prevent the thread from wearing out or becoming brittle over time, pearl necklaces should be taken off before showering, bathing or swimming. If the jewellery does get wet, allow it to dry on a clean towel for 24 hours before stowing it away again.

WEARING PEARLS

As an organic substance, pearls want to be worn regularly. However, there are situations when they should be taken off. For example, during sports or in the sauna. Sweat can damage pearl jewellery. Nor should pearls be worn when showering, bathing or swimming, as this puts strain on the silk thread of a necklace. Chlorinated water also contains chemical substances that rob pearls of their colour and lustr.
